Free Communities

I have seen a lot of libertarian free country and free city projects attempted over the years. I always admire the courage of the founders. Wow!

One of these days such a project is going to gain traction and blossom. Yielding it's participants absolute freedom in an un-free world.

Maybe the first successful project will be a small tract of land, maybe a whole city or an entire nation. Time will tell.

MY favourite project was Laissez Faire City. Have you heard of that? Laissez Faire City started in 1995 and got shut down by 2002.

Here's a website that highlights the current geographical freedom projects: https://free-communities.org/

What's your favourite geographical freedom project? Either a defunct one from the old days, or a going concern today?

Please let me know in the comments.

Freetown Christiania in Denmark is a good example of an anarchist town, it began in 1971 when a bunch of people squated an old disused military base. They have rules like no guns, bullet proof vests, hard drugs or theft, among some others.

Really interesting story behind it.

Here's a cool video about it ^

Wow! I never heard of Zomia before.

"Zomia is a geographical term coined by historian Willem van Schendel of the University of Amsterdam to refer to mainland Southeast Asia, stretching from the Central Highlands of Vietnam westward all the way to northeastern India and including the southwest Chinese provinces of Yunnan, Guizhou, and western Guangxi.0 It hosts a vibrant and diverse population of over 130 million people that has historically been beyond the control of governments based in its lowlands.'

I think there's more potential in freedom projects which are unbounded by geography. Hive is itself such a "virtual land"
